Find out more about our projects:

Our Canal Communities Health All Round project is well underway with our first 12 participants developing their RYA Crewing skills on Jaggy Thistle and spent a day on Walk Leader training to support our quest to use the towpaths and surrounding canal areas to increase wellbeing. This project runs every Monday and the next block begins July 2015.

This unique project in partnership with Scottish Canals has been running since Easter weekend and to date we have assisted a number of different kinds of boats through locks 2 – 16. The feedback to date has been excellent and with safety at the foremost of our minds we are opening up our local landmarks to members of our communities with a few hours to spare.

Canal Communities Health All Round (Edinburgh)

Edinburgh volunteers learn Qigong in Harrison Park as part of the Canal Communities Health All Round project.

Employability Project in Partnership with Job Centre Plus

We are absolutely delighted to be delivering a unique 12 week programme aimed at benefit claimants in partnership with JCP.

We are having a fantastic time supporting each volunteer build their confidence, learn transferable skills, access employability learning to support their journey into work and generally become healthier and more active increasing wellbeing on our canals. They guys have completed their RYA First Aid training already and are well on the way to achieved RYA Crew certificates.

Many have been volunteering outwith the programme demonstrating their commitment to making a change in their life. We have already bid farewell to three of the group who have moved onto employment. Canal Magic!

Please speak to your work coach to find out about eligibility to access the next course starting in July.

Thank You Link Group!

We would like to thank Link Group for their continued support and for funding these fabulous bikes supplied and maintained by Dawson Bike Club. Look out for our volunteers flying up and down the towpath keeping fit and healthy!

As a social enterprise we have the needs of our communities at the heart of what we do. Please get in touch should you like to find out ways in which you can support us to do that.
GOOD NEWS! RYA Inland Waterways Instructor Training
We have such good news to share! Volunteer mentors Alan Fairbairn and Andrew Farrell are now fully fledged RYA trainers after Re-Union supported them to complete a two day course on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Both guys are fantastic trainers who offer huge value to our volunteers. Thank you and well done!

CANAL VOLUNTEER INSIGHTS – JORDAN GRIVAS
Jordan fell in love with boats and canals after hearing a presentation explaining our previous Canal Community Connections project. He has continued to offer his time out with attending Carrongrange School to support others, attend events such as Canal Clean Ups and now our Lock Keeping project where he has shown tenacity and leadership skills way above his years. His teacher and family have reported a huge change in him after becoming involved and now has a clear view of how he would like to spend his time. He is a fabulous role model for other 17 year olds.
